A Hysterectomy is an operation to remove a woman’s uterus. In India gynaecologist and surgeons use latest techniques like Laparoscope Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH) for doing Hysterectomy. Laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) is a surgical procedure using a laparoscope to guide the removal of the uterus and/or Fallopian tubes and ovaries through the vagina (birth canal). During a hysterectomy the surgeon may remove the entire uterus or just part of it. The fallopian tubes and ovaries may also be removed. Hysterectomy can be of many types that include:
Partial hysterectomy – only upper part of uterus is removed

Radical Hysterectomy – Uterus along with cervix and ovaries are removed
In India the most advanced type of hysterectomy that is done is a Laparoscope Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy (LAVH).

Cancer of the uterus, cervix or the ovary
Childbirth complications, such as uncontrolled bleeding
Long-term (chronic) pelvic pain
Severe endometriosis that does not get better with other treatments
Severe, long-term vaginal bleeding that is not controlled with other treatments
Slipping of the uterus into the vagina (uterine prolapse)

This is done using a laparoscope to guide the removal of the uterus and/or Fallopian tubes and ovaries through the vagina (birth canal). However it may be noted that not all cases are fit for a laparoscopic assisted vaginal hysterectomy. The decision of the surgeon or the gynaecologist whether to go for a LAVH or abdmonial hysterectomy depends upon the reason for hysterectomy. The main objective is to have least possible blood loss and safety of patient.
Dr Neha Chandra is one of the most experienced doctor when it comes to the surgical treatment of the Uterus problems. In hysterectomy surgery the focus is on doing complete clearance of the cancer if suspected. Hysterectomy Surgery is done to prevent any kind of complications in the Uterus or the Ovaries in the future. If the patient is married and has completed the family then Uterus removal is advised to prevent any kind of cancer in the future. The flip side of this surgery is that menopause is hastened and some of the women may not find that desirable. However the misconception that the arrival of menopause signals the end of sexual life is not correct and the patient needs to be educated on this topic.
